Rick belongs to the less than 1% of trial lawyers invited to join the American College of Trial Lawyers—his results explain the invitation.
Rick’s practice is devoted exclusively to civil litigation, spanning media libel, breach of trust, breach of corporate fiduciary duty, medical and accountant malpractice, insurance bad faith, consumer and investor fraud, construction disputes, trucking accidents, and products liability. He has tried cases for both plaintiffs and defendants across this range, including two of the most-cited fiduciary duty and insurance bad faith decisions in Alabama history. The hallmark of his trial work has always been meticulous preparation and attention to detail—an approach recognized through his induction as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only organization that admits no more than one percent of the practicing bar in any state, and substantially less in Alabama.
Rick’s recent matters reflect the same discipline: defending an Am Law 200 firm in a legal malpractice case involving alleged conflicts of interest, resolving a will dispute involving a nine-figure estate, and successfully prosecuting a construction defect case spanning more than 100 properties across four states. In that case, Rick’s strategy of pursuing the lead insurer’s coverage dispute first—and winning judgment on the pleadings—brought the defendants to the table for a confidential settlement before a single deposition was ever taken. It is a pattern that defines his practice: focusing resources on the issue that unlocks the most cost-effective resolution for the client.
